Head EMEA Actuarial


Job description

Our client is a start-up insurer, part of a global insurance company, established to provide innovative protection solutions directly to consumers. It provides innovative Life & Health insurance solutions to customers through Distribution Partners. Its Valuation team is a small team (based in Luxemburg and Dublin) which provides the valuation of the insurance liabilities on different bases. We are looking for the Head EMEA Valuation, preferably based in Luxemburg. In this role you will:

  • lead and manage the actuarial function and its processes;
  • provide EMEA's liability valuations on different bases (Luxembourg statutory, US GAAP, Solvency II, EVM);
  • ensure the EMEA Executive Committee and the EMEA Board of Directors are provided with in-depth actuarial views of EMEA's technical provisions;
  • provide actuarial assessments of new transactions;
  • conduct technical notes for new and existing products;
  • liaise with other EMEA functions such as Finance, Products and Risk Management to ensure that valuation and risk management principles are in line with the Group standards;
  • support the regulatory reporting activities in conjunction with the Finance division and legal functions;
  • perform experience analysis and review of key actuarial assumptions to ensure long term profitability of business;
  • ensure an appropriate control framework is in place that matches with the business requirements;
  • develop and maintain deep knowledge of insurance practices and market developments within the European Economic Area, in particular Germany, the Netherlands, the UK, and Ireland.

Skills and Experience

  • University degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science or related field with proven mathematical skills and analytical ability;
  • Qualified actuary (e.g. French Association of Actuaries or equivalent);
  • Work experience of 10+ years in primary L&H insurance and/or consulting environment with actuarial focus;
  • Excellent understanding of Luxembourg statutory and US GAAP reserving for L&H business;
  • Keen appreciation of sound risk management and Solvency II requirements;
  • Strong knowledge of the MS Office suite (particularly of MS Excel) or Matlab;
  • You are organized, a motivated team player and comfortable in a multi-cultural environment;
  • Strong verbal and written communication: ability to communicate complex issues to others in a clear and concise way;
  • Your English is excellent; French is a plus.
